Woodend Walk

Enjoy the beauty and diversity of woodlands on the estate.

Following the road from Old Blair, the walk takes you past Diana's Grove, originally planted in 1737 by the 2nd Duke of Atholl and now known nationally for its important collection of exotic conifers.

The walk takes you past the pony trekking centre - look out for the highland ponies; and then continues through parkland and uphill though woodland. The woodland is larch - the 2nd and 4th Dukes of Atholl being the first landowners to plant larch commercially in the 18th/early 19th century. Now hybrid larch is the main larch species used in forestry today.

Once at the top of the hill, just follow the Banvie Burn back to the road, not forgetting to take a small detour to admire the view from The Whim, a folly built in 1761
